Practical, constructable and innovative civil design solutions that create high-quality environments
The Stellar Projects civil design team creates practical, high quality environments and assets for the public and private sectors through innovation and attention to detail. Our projects include large-scale industrial developments through to public parks, sportsfields and playspaces, often working alongside other disciplines within Stellar Projects, ensuring that we can offer an end-to-end solution from investigation to construction delivery.
The civil team designers have in depth construction experience which optimises the development of pragmatic and constructable design solutions.
The difference…
The civil team have delivered countless projects from an idea to something on (or in) the ground. We provide realistic advice for our clients from early engagement around budget and timeframes prior to jumping into a design solution. This ensures expectation and budget is kept on the forefront prior to design being completed. This also provides an opportunity to discuss the issues and risks to stakeholders which may have not been identified at the start of the project, instead of at the end of the detailed design phase. Our team leaders have in depth construction and design experience and this allows the civil team to align the client’s scope with realistic expectations. Having this no surprises approach has been highly appreciated by all our clients.
All our designers have construction experience, and they look after their designs right through to completion. This structure ensures our design engineers have a good understanding of constructability and can carry this thinking right through the design process setting us apart from other consultancies. Having one engineer design and administer construction also allows for efficient decision-making during construction which contractors often appreciate. This philosophy has seen Stellar Projects develop a group of pragmatic design engineers who can apply civil engineering principals in an effective manner, delivering projects within budget and limiting construction variations.

Takapuna Gould Reserve changing rooms
Public facilities
The Stellar team are so proud to have worked on the Takapuna Gould Reserve bathrooms & changing facilities, located on Takapuna beach. Right in our home base on the North Shore, this new facility is unique in providing one of the toilet rooms as a state of the art Changing Places specialty room for those with disabilities.
A full replacement of the existing structure, this new build was led by Auckland Council with contributions from the local community and architecture from LTD Architects. Stellar Projects was appointed for civil engineering design and project management services and we are very pleased to see a quality new facility be handed over for the community to enjoy. A big thank you for the hard work of all those involved!

Milford Changing Rooms
Public Facility
Stellar Projects has recently completed the design and construction management of the new public toilet facility and changing room on Milford Beach in Auckland. This involved demolishing the existing structure, which is in a prominent location on one of the North Shore’s most popular beaches.
As locals ourselves, it was very important for us to work closely with the Devonport-Takapuna Local Board to ensure all were satisfied with the outcome. We look forward to seeing this enjoyed when summer is in full swing again!

Park Revitalization
Waiheke Skate Park
Park Revitalization
Not your usual day in the office – sometimes our projects take us to unique locations like the Tawaipereira Reserve Skate Park on Waiheke Island.
As part of their engagement, Stellar Projects provided design review, site improvements, and construction administration for an extension to the existing skate park which included a new pyramid, quarter pipes, barriers, rails, ledges, rollovers and new flat areas. In addition, the existing facility was rejuvenated by remediating cracking, grinding the existing surface, applying sealant and also giving the skate park a rejuvenated finish with a fresh coat of paint on some of the existing features.
The contractor, Hunter Civil, took great care throughout construction which included managing risk on a closed landfill site. This also made the drainage design of the site particularly important. Overall the outcome is excellent for the Waiheke community who will be able to enjoy the improvements for many years to come.
Thanks to Hunter Civil and RICH Landscapes for their hard work.

Higgins Asphalt Plant
Commercial Construction
Higgins Asphalt Plant
Commercial Construction
We are proud to share the photos below of the recently completed asphalt plant at the Higgins site in Silverdale.
Our involvement with this project included detailed design, and the preparation and submission of multiple building consents over a staged timeframe to enable work on site to begin as soon as practical. Various disciplines contributed to the project including civil design, utilities and earthworks, structural design, and three waters design, including a very specific trade waste component with the assistance of specialist partner IWS. We also fulfilled construction monitoring services once the works began.
This project had a particularly challenging timeframe which required all detailed design to be complete within 2 months, a task which would under normal circumstances run over 10 months for a site of this complexity. Works began on detailed design in December 2019, and were completed recently on site – a monumental feat for all involved with the first loads of asphalt being batched only 13 months from starting design.
Congratulations to Higgins on the completion of this state of the art facility, this has been an extremely rewarding project to be a part of.

Deep Creek Reserve Torbay
Toilet Block, Carpark & Sports Fields
Deep Creek Reserve Torbay
Toilet Block, Carpark & Sports Fields
The High Street Pilot Project is working towards a more accessible High Street that works better for people.
Stellar Projects undertook full scope professional services through the construction phase of a new car park, toilet and sports field upgrade to provide a comprehensive sports facility at Deep Creek Reserve for Auckland Council on behalf of the residents of Torbay. This entailed investigations and design of the car park, drainage and toilet facility, in addition to design management and coordination of the sports fields and lighting. We also provided consenting, quantity surveying and MSQA services to deliver the entire project.
The previous sports field did not have drainage and was known to become saturated, nor was there lighting, toilets or car parking for users of the facility. The field has now been upgraded with a sand-base, natural grass and full lighting to enable use all year round.
The site provided numerous challenges, the most significant being that Deep Creek Reserve is a closed landfill and therefore any unwanted materials would be costly to dispose of. To avoid unnecessary waste, the excavated topsoil was tested and approved for reuse at the dog park in the lower section. Also, overland flow which previously caused flooding of neighbouring private properties, was successfully addressed by conveyance via a series of bioswales and culverts to a nearby creek.

Mt Eden Changing Rooms
Public Infrastructure
Mt Eden Changing Rooms
Public Infrastructure
Stellar Projects undertook the tendering, construction management and contract administration for the new toilet block on Maungawhau (Mt Eden), including design of the civil components and obtaining building consent. The Tūpuna Maunga Authority and Auckland Council requested that a new temporary/removable toilet block be constructed, with minimal excavation of the site given the significant cultural value of the Maunga. Our innovative design provided an entire toilet block which can be easily removed, with the option to reinstate the grass bank.
Stellar Projects collaborated with LTD Architectural Design Studio and Vertigo Professional Services to design a container toilet block, and to limit the extent of excavation, our design incorporated concrete foundation pads and a steel structure to house two 20-foot containers, decking and framing. Further, due to limited wastewater connection points on the Maunga, a wastewater pump station was integrated into the design. This is only partially buried to also minimise excavation, while remaining hidden from view below the decking.
