Connecting communities with nature through thoughtful, lasting design
The Stellar Projects structural engineering team has an established portfolio of work in low-impact public access walkways, cycleways and associated assets to and through the natural environment. Experience across the team also includes larger steel structures such as industrial buildings and commercial and residential developments within the public, retail, education, healthcare and retirement sectors. This includes seismic assessment and design, retrofit and renovation, site investigation and survey, and construction monitoring.
Early collaboration
Early collaboration with the client, specialists and the broader Stellar team ensures that suitable, practical and feasible designs are pursued from an early stage to prevent re-design. Our engineers are also often involved in projects from scoping and concept through to construction management and monitoring, resulting in a strong understanding of how considered design can eliminate construction issues later in a project.
The experienced design team has continuing professional development inhouse aimed at developing their ability to produce appropriate solutions in complex locations through lessons learned and best practise teaching. In additional to this our inhouse Quality Assurance process ensures that no aspect is missed during the design phase and that the final documentation set provided to the client is complete and fulfils the brief.

Bay Street Boardwalk
Public Walkway
The Stellar Projects structural design team provided detailed design and construction management of a new 2.5m wide boardwalk through a wetland to provide the final connection of a section of path in Tauranga.

MAUNGAWHAU TIHI BOARDWALK
Community Facility
Stellar Projects worked with Tūpuna Maunga Authority, Isthmus Group ltd, Chester Consultants Ltd. and HEB Construction to upgrade the tihi walkway around the crater at Maungawhau (Mt Eden).
The new boardwalk protects the sacred maunga from visitors allowing the archaeological and geological features to be preserved for future generations to enjoy.
Maungawhau receives over 1.2 million visitors per year and is a favourite for Aucklanders and locals alike. We are proud to have worked on this and are excited to see it featured in the following:

PUKETOROMIRO PA WALKWAY

Construction of Puketoromiro Pa Walkway located in Kopurererua Valley has recently been completed and will soon be open for the public to enjoy.
Stellar Projects was engaged by Tauranga City Council to complete a design and carry out construction monitoring for this walkway which consists of approximately 120m of no-dig boxed steps, 70m of aggregate path and 10m of low boardwalk which cross over historic defensive ditches, accentuating the features of the Pa site.
This historic place was once inhabited by the people of Ngai Tamarawaho, and as an archaeological site, required sensitive design, with no digging allowed during construction. The resulting design made for expedient archaeological approval and Resource Consent application. The summit of the walkway offers great views over ecologically diverse wetlands.

FLAXMILL BRIDGE
Design & Construction
FLAXMILL BRIDGE
Design & Construction
Stellar Projects was appointed for the design and construction monitoring of a pedestrian bridge alongside Purangi Road near Cooks Beach in the Coromandel.
This provides safe access across the ford for pedestrians walking between Maramatotara Bay and Shakespeare Cliff Scenic and Historic Reserve and is an impressive 18metres long x 1.2 metres wide.
The project included detailed design, consenting, construction monitoring and project management and involved pre-fabrication of the structure offsite by Kier Landscaping.

Lyford Reserve
Walking Track
Lyford Reserve
Walking Track
Stellar Projects designed and delivered 750m of new walking track through Lyford Reserve on the North Shore in collaboration with Nasey Contractors who undertook the construction. In addition to providing a scenic access way for the general public, the track is used by local Sunnynook Primary School for cross country running, outdoor environment classes and walking school buses. The new track merges onto an existing smaller track traversing one end of the reserve and contains bridge sections fabricated from the equivalent of 391,000 items of soft plastic. The project was conducted in conjunction with a weed removal initiative whereby over 50 pine and wattle trees were removed and replaced with some 1500 native species, planted by the local community.

Walking Track Upgrades
Omanawanui Track
Walking Track Upgrades
Stellar Projects is working with Auckland Council Regional Parks and Biosecurity to upgrade the walking tracks across the Auckland region, including Omanawanui Track in the Waitakere Ranges. This track forms a spectacular part of the Hillary Trail along the northern mouth of the Manukau Harbour from Huia to Whatipu.
The upgrades involve improving safety and rerouting where needed to protect the future of our forests and native species and is part of the work programme to combat kauri dieback.
